ING...A Week of DOING Spring!

You may have noticed there was no entry last week for week 3 of our Spring Challenge. Sadly, our week was sabotaged by strep throat and hand foot and mouth. I will tell you before sickness altered our plans we had high hopes of a week 3 R is for Reading day at the rain garden behind Fireworks on 84th and Old Cheney. We also hoped to make it for a fun day of Railroad Reading down in the Haymarket in front of the cool train brick wall and the climb on train sculpture. Alas, week 3 will have to wait until next year which brings me to week 4, the final week of our Spring Challenge. This week ING is for all the fun things we love to do in spring. Ladies and gentlemen we are indeed having an ing week!

First we made a list of some of our favorite things to do in spring:
Riding bikes
Picnics
Play at the park
Swing
Slide
Plant flowers
Watch for signs of spring
Fish

Next we turned them all into action words we could be doing right now by adding ing to the end:
Riding
Picnicking
Playing
Swinging
Sliding
Planting
Watching
Fishing

Then you guessed it, we got busy doing those things we love to do in spring. Here are a few pictures of our ing things. Enjoy!

Sliding!

Playing!

Fishing!

Riding!

We hope you take time to do some of the spring things you love to do in this town!

What LAFM has to Offer

Lincoln Area Families with Multiples

Our organization helps to support members in various ways.

Here are some examples:

  • We have a meal program in which members prepare and deliver meals to help those who have just brought their multiples home from the hospital.
  • We have monthly meetings where we have a speaker come address the group about topics relevant to parenting. In conjunction with the meetings, we hold social/networking time for parents to gather, ask questions and get advice from other parents of multiples.
  • A monthly newsletter, “Multiple Messages”, is published and distributed electronically to keep members current with the happenings of the club and upcoming events.
  • We maintain a mass e-mail group where members can post questions to one another, buy and sell items, and keep updated on club news.
  • We have Mom or Dad’s nights out, Couples’ nights out, and play dates for the youngsters.
  • Discounted (group rates) or free outings to hockey games, the circus, Salt Dog games, pumpkin patches and more!
  • The club sponsors an annual summer picnic, holiday party (Santa comes too), Trunk or Treat and Easter Egg hunt.
  • A semi-annual kids consignment sale where members can sell gently used clothing, household items, furniture, and toys. Members are able to shop the night before the sale is open to the public to find things they may need. The sale is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers!
  • Club members also receive discounts on services from many local businesses.

P is for Picinc at the Park in your PJ's

We are on week 2 of our Spring Challenge. If you missed week one, you can read about it here. This week we decided to do a picnic at the park.  I decided to add an element of surprise by planning it on a day daddy was off work and making it a morning picnic so we could go in our pj’s (well the girls went in pj’s and I went in sweat pants, daddy did jeans).  The girls were so excited!  We picked a park with water so we could fish and explore a bit rather than doing play equipment, but this town if full of great parks.  Check them out here and pick the best one for your crew.  Here are the pictures from our adventure, Enjoy!

We went really simple with food.  I had a bag packed before the girls woke up so we could just hop in and go.  We took chocolate milk, blueberry muffins and powdered donughts!

We had so much fun fishing, wishing and enjoying nature on this lovely spring morning.  It was a fun way to start a day together.  It was easy to plan and do and it really didn’t cost much.

As we were brainstorming what to do for week 2 of our spring challenge, we also came up with the ideas “Pirate Picnic”  our plan was to make pirate hats go to Trendwood Park where the huge play equipment is like a Pirate Ship, at least in our imagination.   Our other idea was a  ”Prairie Picnic”  we decided to wait on that because Spring Creek Prairie is having their kite flying day on April 15th.  On that day, we’ll pack a picnic and a kite and enjoy the prairie.

Come back next week for week 3 “the R week” of our Spring Challenge in this great town!
